Who doesn’t love a bag of M&Ms? The colored chocolate candies are a yummy snack, but they also make a great ingredient for lots of baked goods. Add M&Ms to a cookie or other treat, and suddenly the snack becomes that much better!


Add some M&Ms to your favorite cookie recipe and watch out! Cookies with M&Ms have something extra. They are fun and some extra chocolate never hurt anyone. Try adding M&Ms to a your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, a recipe with a chocolate dough or a cookie with a sugar dough. You can also use M&Ms to decorate sugar cookies.

Rice Krispie Treats

Who says Rice Krispie treats can’t include chocolate? Adding M&Ms to Rice Krispie treats is so easy. Just add one to two cups to the recipe, form the mixture in a pan and chill as usual. There are also lots of varied Rice Krispie treat recipes out there. Some have chocolate layers, some have peanut butter and some are made of different types of cereal. M&Ms would be a great addition to any of these variations of the classic bar treat.


Chocolate brownies get twice as good with M&Ms. Again, this is a simple variation but oh so good. There are two ways you can add M&Ms to a batch of brownies. The first is to stir one cup of the candies into the batter right before you pour it into a baking pan. With this technique, your brownies will have M&Ms scattered throughout them. The second way to do this is to bake your brownies as normal, and when there is about 15 minutes of baking time left, remove the tray from the oven, sprinkle some M&Ms on top, and then return the brownies to the oven to finish baking. With this trick, your brownies will have an M&M topping.


Cupcakes are a very popular treat right now. They are great for parties but are also the perfect solution when your child’s elementary school teacher¬†asks you to bring refreshments for the next class party. You can mix M&Ms into cupcake batter to add some crunch to the cupcakes, or you can use them to decorate the tops of the cakes.

Really, there is no wrong way to use M&Ms in baking. Just about any cookie, brownie or cake recipe allows you to add some extra candy and the results are delicious!
